Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side will look to extend their perfect start to the new season when they face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light tonight

Arsenal have the chance to continue their impressive start to the season when they take on Sunderland tonight. The Gunners head to Wearside on the back of an impressive win over Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday.

While in the Premier League, it is three wins from three for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have only conceded once in all competitions so far this season. However, Arteta is once again without William Saliba for tonight's game.

The centre-back is yet to play for the Gunners this season, having exacerbated a lingering back injury during France’s run to the World Cup semi-finals in the summer. Although on the road to recovery, his boss recently revealed he is unsure when he will return.

“We don’t really know the amount of weeks Wilo [Saliba] is going to be out because it’s about a healing process and everything is a bit different - we know we have to respect certain timings,” Arteta said.

Jurrien Timber is working his way back to full fitness, with Arteta revealing on Friday: "[With Jurrien], let's see. We have another training session. He's been doing really well, he's been training with us now for a few days, and he looks in good shape."

While Arsenal could be set to welcome back Cristhian Mosquera, who has missed his side’s last two matches after picking up a muscular injury against Aston Villa. "[Cristhian's] doing really well, let's see if he can get [back] for this game or the next one,” Arteta said.

Ben White was also spotted limping towards the end of the 1-0 victory over Napoli, but Arteta confirmed the defender is "fine" and could feature tonight. While also speaking on Friday, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris confirmed Romaine Mundle and Habib Diarra are his side’s only injury absentees for tonight’s game.

On Mundle, Le Bris said: “Romaine has a knee injury, which is a shame because he had a good pre-season. We will support him and hope he is ready by the end of the year.”

Diarra is continuing his recovery from a hamstring injury, and Le Bris added: “Habib is in the middle of his recovery.” And Le Bris also believes his side stand every chance of ending Arsenal’s perfect start to the new campaign.

He said: “They are the best team in Europe at the minute and they have good momentum as well. We can’t get complacent otherwise it is finished very quickly.

“If you think that you are already a European team, it’s going to be a big problem. They are flying right now and they have many threats on the pitch but we have a good team as well. It is a good challenge and we need these challenges to get better.”
