Chongqing Lifan will have to appoint a new coach after it emerged that Jordi Cruyff would not be renewing his contract with the Chinese club.

The decision made by the Dutch coach will be communicated officially at some point on Saturday evening, and it brings to an end his near two-year stay with the club whom he steered away from relegation.

After achieving safety, Cruyff agreed to stay on as coach for one further season, although this was somewhat of a departure from his work with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he was the director of football, and a hugely successful one at that.

Chongqing again avoided relegation for the second straight campaign, with Cruyff's work very highly regarded as this was the club's goal.

The future for the Dutchman is unclear at this moment, as is whether or not he will seek another coaching position or look to move back into the director of football role, which he showed such a strong suitability for.
