The president of Levante stated that Real Madrid had completed the signing last week, despite their prior knowledge of Real Madrid's interest.

Levante's summer transfer saga surrounding Carlos Espí remains a focal point. This €25 million deal is the second most expensive in Levante's history, second only to Jefferson Lerma's €30 million transfer to Bournemouth in 2018.

Despite competition from several European teams, Real Madrid directly activated the release clause after Gonzalo's departure. This morning, Pablo Sánchez, president of the Orihuela district club, spoke about the striker's departure process.

"Real Madrid expressed interest at the beginning of June, and we've been in communication with them this month. The deal was finalized in July. However, it's normal for an important club like Real Madrid to be eyeing the best U23 player of last season and a natural goalscorer. We hope he does well there," said Pablo Sánchez.

Sánchez also said that although the squad is largely complete, Levante's transfer window is still open. However, whether new signings will arrive a week before the official season starts depends on player departures.

"It depends on departures. The transfer window is still open, and we are prepared for potential departures. We performed very well last season, and we have many players who are attractive to other clubs, not just Spanish clubs, but foreign teams are also watching. However, we are also ready to bring in the players we need," the president said.

So far, Levante has brought in two players for the defense: Aïssa Mandi and Manu Alexis, but the president also pointed out that the team still needs to strengthen further in this position.

"We are still lacking something in our defense, especially at center-back. The team will definitely make more signings, but overall, it's largely taking shape," Sánchez said.
