According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid president Cerezo seemed to allude to Alvarez at Grimaldo's presentation ceremony, when he spoke about Alvarez's desire to play at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Cerezo said: "Many players dream of playing for Atletico Madrid, but not many are willing to do so much to join us. He even cut short his vacation, which is highly valued by the club and fans."
Cerezo also stated: "We know that many teams wanted him. He will play in Spain for the first time. Grimaldo grew up in the Valencia and Barça youth systems, then joined Benfica, and then moved to Leverkusen. He won 9 championships in Portugal and 3 in Germany. We hope to continue winning more championships together."
Cerezo then said: "On behalf of all Atletico Madrid fans, I welcome you. We know you are full of fighting spirit, excellent footwork, ambition, courage, and passion. We know you will give your best performance."

World Champion
Cerezo also highlighted Spain's World Cup victory on July 19. He said: "It's not every day that we can welcome a world champion. This is the case with 30-year-old Alejo Grimaldo. Atletico Madrid has sent the most players to the finals for the third consecutive World Cup. I want to congratulate all the players who were selected for the finals. He is a Spanish international, and in addition to the World Cup title, he has also won the European Championship." Cerezo concluded.
