According to Spanish media COPE, after the recent large-scale migrant crossings in Ceuta, Ceuta coach José Romero publicly expressed his dissatisfaction at the press conference before the first round of the Segunda División, stating that if it were up to him, the team would not even play the match.

Romero said: "I think football has a huge communication influence, and we need to use this platform to speak out about what is happening here."

Romero stated frankly that if the decision was in his hands, "Ceuta would not play the match." He described the current situation as a "disgrace" and criticized the lack of sufficient attention and support for Ceuta from mainland Spain.

He said: "It seems that once you leave our borders, not many people care about what happens here. If the same thing happened in another city, the scale of protests and solidarity would certainly be much larger."

Romero also believes that there is insufficient external attention to Ceuta and the current plight of its local residents. He warned: "If they don't hear the voices from Sunday's demonstration, then we will have to take other actions to make ourselves heard."

In fact, Romero had previously spoken out publicly after a large number of migrants crossed the Ceuta border into the area. Hours after the incident, he posted a photo of Ceuta on his personal social media, with the caption: "Ceuta is inviolable, Ceuta deserves respect."
