Michael Como (Lombardy Radio): Hello, Coach. In Italy, we are usually very accustomed to having a “field director” or “team manager” in the locker room and with the first team—someone responsible for daily affairs who spends all day with the team. However, at the current Milan, we do not seem to have such a traditional team manager role. Instead, we have a very decisive and active owner, and the coach needs to communicate directly with the ownership. Can you tell us what it is really like whenever Gerry Cardinale comes to Milanello? Based on the observations of fans and the media, his recent attendance and attention to visiting the training ground have been much greater than before. Does this extremely close, seamless communication and consistency between the owner and the head coach make the sense of responsibility you carry even greater?
In my opinion, ensuring that everyone here fully feels the weight of the responsibility of wearing the red and black is the foundation of the team. For everyone at Milanello and everyone serving Milan, this is paramount and essential. At our training base, everyone’s roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and standardized, with no Gray areas, so everyone knows their mission.
What I want to emphasize is that this goes far beyond just the smooth working relationship between Mr. Cardinale and me. What is most inspiring is the genuine humility and warmth he shows every time he comes to Milanello—he spends a very long time there, and when he walks around the base, he naturally and respectfully takes time to chat with our kitchen staff and asks about the well-being of every logistics team member, rather than arrogantly speaking only to the first-team stars or the head coach. In my opinion, this is what truly unites people.
For me, the most crucial and reassuring point is that the entire team can truly feel that our owner is always by our side, paying meticulous attention to every detail of the entire club.If you have an in-depth conversation with Mr. Cardinale, you will understand that if Milan truly wants to embark on the long road to restoring glory, we must build a behind-the-scenes organizational ecosystem that embodies craftsmanship and pursues perfection.
As for my duties and responsibilities as head coach, they remain extremely clear and unwavering: to win tomorrow's game. Therefore, I will give my all to lead this beloved team to an enjoyable and successful performance on the pitch.
Pétrot-Barzano-Prota (Milan Vibes): Hello, Coach. On behalf of the vast number of Milan fans, welcome. I would like to discuss the technical and tactical details on the pitch. During preseason, we observed Samuel Chukwueze’s tactical positioning. Are you trying to replicate your previous approach with Jovane Cabral at Sporting CP or your strategy with Amad Diallo at Man United? Also, from the perspective of formation and the balance between offensive and defensive transitions, does the current Milan have enough tactical flexibility to accommodate such an aggressive, attacking player controlling that wide channel in actual match conditions?
This fundamentally depends on the player's individual defensive commitment, tactical discipline, and mentality. Sometimes, fans and outside observers tend to prejudge Chukwueze simply because of his exceptional dribbling skills in the opponent's penalty area, and they assume he cannot contribute high-quality defensive work on the field.
However, in modern football, defending is not just about physical ability or tackling technique. It first requires inner character—the willingness to work hard for your teammates and the fighting spirit to commit fully to challenges. I believe Samuel absolutely possesses these qualities.
Furthermore, when we are defending on the field, it requires the coordinated effort of all 11 players in a unified defensive retreat, not just a task assigned to one player. He is making impressive progress every day, and he is certainly not a traditional defender who stays rigidly in the backfield.
I understand that, in Italian football culture, a wing-back is often viewed conservatively as a full-back focused on defensive solidity rather than as an attacking winger who penetrates the opposition's lines. However, the tactical philosophy I want to emphasize is that, while we certainly aim to build a rock-solid defense, we place even greater emphasis on controlling the game through efficient, suffocating possession.
If we lose control of the game and the ball, even if we rigidly stack defensive players in front of the penalty area, we will still find ourselves at the mercy of our opponents. Therefore, my tactical approach requires players who can dominate opponents with the ball at their feet and break down defensive lines. Chukwueze has exceptional talent in this regard. As he demonstrated in his strong performance against Man United, he also possesses excellent execution and defensive discipline.
