Maresca: Haaland and Others Still Settling In; More Transfers? 8 Days Left in Window

After Chelsea defeated Bournemouth 2-1 in the opening round of the Premier League on Sunday evening, Maresca gave an interview with "Match of the Day" to discuss his thoughts on the match.

On the Match

"First of all, I'm very pleased we won this match. I think we should have won it earlier because we controlled the game and created plenty of chances. Before we conceded, we had three or four good opportunities, but unfortunately, we missed them all."

"The match became more complicated after we conceded, but overall, I think we fully deserved to win. Today, four or five of our players only joined the team ten days ago. For them, it's still almost preseason."

"Haaland is one of them, as are Enzo Fernández, Guéhi, and O'Reilly. It's not easy for them, but they're working hard to help the team. Guéhi has never played in midfield before, but he performed very well today."

"So I'm satisfied with the players' efforts. Sometimes you imagine certain scenarios. I knew Guéhi when he was at Crystal Palace, and I always thought he could play in midfield because he played so well there. So we tried him out for a few days, and I think he played quite well."

"That's what we need. We need our eleven starting players to play at the right tempo, and we also need the other five players to adjust and move in the right direction. I think the adjustment of those five players today was very good."
