"We all know what Fabio means to us"
Sporting director Claus Costa, who had flown to London specially in the past few days to actively back up the significant interest Arsenal FC has in Vieira, added: "We all know what Fabio means to us. He was an absolute difference-maker for us last season and possesses qualities that add a special dimension to our game. That makes it all the more pleasing that he has clearly committed himself to our path, the team and the entire club. We are overjoyed that we have been able to get this transfer over the line together and that Fabio is now a long-term part of the HSV family. We would also like to express our explicit thanks to our colleagues at Arsenal FC around Andrea Berta for the highly professional and constructive exchanges. Our talks were solution-oriented and always marked by mutual respect. "
Fabio Daniel Ferreira Vieira was born on 30 May 2000 in Santa Maria da Feira, near Porto. Just a short distance away, he received his footballing education at the leading local club FC Porto (2008-2020), and made his professional debut for the northern Portuguese side's first team in the summer of 2020. Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Vieira – a top European talent who finished as runner-up at the 2021 U21 European Championship and was named the tournament's best player – joined Premier League side FC Arsenal. Following a loan spell back at his former club in the 2024/25 season, the 1.70-metre-tall creative playmaker also moved on loan to Hamburger SV at the start of the pre-season. With his footballing brilliance and knack for creating truly special moments, the left-footer immediately and permanently won his way into the hearts of HSV fans, notching 13 goal contributions in 31 competitive matches. What was once a successful loan spell is now set to become a long-term commitment.
"I am very happy to be back here. I already know the club, the fans and many of my teammates, so it feels fantastic to be a part of it again. I knew from the very beginning that there might be an opportunity for me to return here, and I could feel that HSV was making a real effort to sign me. Now I am back and I can hardly wait to get started, " says Vieira, whose jersey number for the 2026/27 season has not yet been confirmed, about his return to the Volksparkstadion.
Welcome back, Fabio!
