Schalke goalkeeper Karius revealed after the 0-0 draw with Bayern that he had known Bayern coach Kompany since their time at Manchester City, praising him as a "great person" and a "top coach."

Schalke 04 drew 0-0 at home against Bayern Munich in the second round of the Bundesliga, a result that surprised most observers. After more than three years, Schalke played their first Bundesliga home game against the German record champions and stubbornly held on for a draw. Bayern controlled most of the match, and although the visitors continuously pressed, they rarely created truly threatening chances. Schalke defended with high morale, and goalkeeper Karius, in particular, was the decisive figure.
After the match, Karius reunited with Kompany, and the 33-year-old goalkeeper revealed that they had known each other since their time at Manchester City when he was a young player. "It was really nice to see him again," Karius said, praising Kompany as a "great person" and a "top coach." He was particularly pleased by Kompany's congratulations.
During the match, Bayern's attack, led by Luis Diaz and Harry Kane, repeatedly challenged Schalke's defense but failed to break through. In the 54th minute, Diaz had a golden opportunity, but his shot went over the bar and was cleared. Before the final whistle, Karius made another brilliant save to deny Kane's late shot.
For Schalke, this point was particularly valuable at the start of the season. After a 0-3 loss to Augsburg in the first round, the newly promoted team immediately faced a strong opponent, but under Miron Muslić, they showed a completely different side, earning their first point since returning to the Bundesliga with this draw.
For Bayern, this draw was also noteworthy. They had previously beaten Schalke in ten consecutive Bundesliga meetings, but their winning streak was ended in the electric atmosphere of the Veltins Arena, and Karius's excellent performance was a key reason.
