According to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, Real Betis player Abde was subjected to insults and threats on social media by some of his Moroccan compatriots after he wore a T-shirt in solidarity with the people of Ceuta before the match against Villarreal.

Abde was born in Beni Mellal, Morocco, and grew up in Elche, Spain. In 2021, he was close to choosing to play for the Spanish national team, but ultimately chose to play for the Moroccan national team.

Before Real Betis' away match against Villarreal, Abde and other players from both teams wore T-shirts with the words "Todos somos caballas" (We are all people of Ceuta) to express their support for the people of Ceuta. However, this action provoked dissatisfaction among some Moroccan netizens.

Some people on social media called Abde a "traitor" and a "coward." One person wrote: "A true Moroccan would not abandon his homeland when it needs him most. Some things will not be forgotten, and some betrayals will erase years of built-up respect."

Another comment said: "Betraying one's homeland is not a fleeting act, but a disgrace that will remain in historical memory. The homeland cannot be sold out, and those who sell out their homeland lose respect before they lose their homeland."

Some netizens commented on the ownership of Ceuta and Melilla, saying, "Whether you like it or not, Ceuta and Melilla are and always will be Moroccan," and "Ceuta and Melilla belong to Morocco, and history will not be erased by a T-shirt."

Some of these messages even contained clear threats. One person wrote: "Today you will live in fear because of us, tomorrow you will experience the worst moment of your life." Another said: "The last time we see him play for the national team will be a lesson."
