The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is pleased to announce a historic milestone in the development of the domestic game.

This morning, at the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Old Yundum, the President of the GFF and Chairperson of the FIFA Amateur and Grassroots Football Committee, Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, officially presided over the formal presentation of the FIFA Amateur Football Country Report for The Gambia.

The comprehensive report was handed over by esteemed FIFA Regional Technical Consultants, Mr. Ali Mwebe (Uganda) and Mr. Serame Letsoaka (South Africa). The document represents the culmination of an intensive diagnostic process that began in 2022, fueled by rigorous data collection spearheaded by the GFF’s Youth and Grassroots Football Unit, where they engaged all the actors in the domestic game.

Receiving the report, President Bajo expressed profound gratitude to FIFA for their unwavering technical support and partnership. He underscored the strategic importance of the findings, noting that amateur football serves as the pulse of the nation’s sporting ambitions.

“Amateur football is the very foundation of my committee’s work and the bedrock upon which the future of Gambian football is built,” Mr. Bajo stated. “This report provides us with the empirical evidence and the roadmap necessary to professionalize our structures, nurture talent from the grassroots up, and ensure sustainable growth across all regions of the country.”

The presentation at the NTTC is part of a three-day intensive review period. The proceedings are scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, 13th January 2026, with a high-level stakeholder interface at the Metzy Residence Hotel in Kololi. This final session will bring together key actors from across the football ecosystem to deliberate on the report’s recommendations and align on an implementation strategy that benefits Gambian youth.

The Gambia now joins an elite group of African nations to have successfully completed this FIFA-led assessment, following in the footsteps of Mauritania and Botswana, who concluded their reports in 2025. By finalizing this survey, the GFF reaffirms its position as a progressive Member Association committed to international best practices and the methodical development of the beautiful game.
