The focus is crystal clear at Arsenal this season.

"We want to go and win the league," mdifielder Mariona Caldentay told Sky Sports.

"The WSL title is definitely the trophy we are eyeing up," added defender Lotte Wubben Moy.

It's been a long wait for the Gunners to add to their four WSL titles. Their last came back in 2019 and Arsenal are not hiding away from the ambition of ending that drought.

"We know the fans want the WSL title as much as we do," Wubben-Moy told Sky Sports.

"We want to add to Arsenal's 15 titles."

Caldentay added: "I'd love to win all of the titles, of course, but the league is a big focus for us.

"We have been missing consistency but if we can find that, we'll be close to winning the league.

"You need to be good in every game to finish first in the league.

"That's really hard to do but that is our mentality now. That is what we want to do."

On the diffiucty of winning the title, she added: "It's something we are really working towards but then there is so much competition now.

"There are so many good teams now and they are also signing good players this summer. The league gets better every year and that is so good for the competition.

"We now have such good teams, players, stadiums and facilities. That is so good for women's football."

Gunners ready to 'right wrongs' of slow starts

Arsenal finished four points behind winners Man City last season and while the Gunners won the inaugural Champions Cup, they did not retain their Women's Champions League title and also exited the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage and the League Cup in the semi-finals.

A slow start in the league, which has become a bit of a trend for Arsenal in recent season, once again proved costly for Rene Slegers' side.

Wubben-Moy is aware a fast start could be crucial to Arsenal's title ambititions and is ready to "right the wrongs" of previous campaigns.

"We have had a good six to seven-week pre-season," the England international said. "That's a luxury in our game and it's a great opportunity to build with the players we already have and build on what we've already got. We can then integrate the new players into that.

"We all want the build up in the rear-view mirror and to get going with the season. While I'm excited for this building stage and growth, I'm ready to write the wrongs of the past.

"I'm an experienced player and I have been here in the moments where we have struggled in the first part of the season, and it is definitely something we can improve."

'New squad depth exciting for Arsenal'

With Arsenal looking to hit the ground running this season, they did plenty of their summer transfer business early.

It's been a summer of change with seven players coming in starting with England midfielder Georgia Stanway, who has been joined by experienced internationals Selina Cerci, Geraldine Reuteler, Ona Batlle, Misa Rodríguez, Lisa Baum and Isabella Damm.

When asked if the new faces in the squad have brought excitement ahead of the new season, Wubben-Moy said: "Without a doubt. We have added a lot of quality and experience, and a lot of character. They are joining a squad with a lot of character already so it will add a lot of depth, which is exciting.

"I'm pretty experienced within football now so with that, there's inevitable change. That's not just individuals but also infrastructure, investment and engagement.

"The women's game continues to grow so quickly, so much so that you have to be nimble, adding characters and the quality we have this summer, it allows us to be even more nimble.

"As an experienced player within the squad - I have been here a good while now - I feel I can add a bit of guidance and help provide an environment where new players do come in and feel comfortable and are able to grow and progress."

Caldentey excited to build Stanway partnership

Stanway in particular was eye-catching business from Arsenal as they captured the 27-year-old from Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

Caldentey has faced Stanway plenty of times at international level and in recent seasons for Arsenal against Bayern Munich, but she is now extremely excited to be team-mates.

"I have played against Georgia a lot at international level and also when we have faced Bayern Munich," Caldentey said.

"I have a lot of respect for her as a player and I am very happy to have her on my side now.

"You can already see in training that we will have a really good connection and I am looking forward to building that.

"She will help the team a lot and I hope I can help her too."

On the other additions this summer, she added: "You can see the quality of the players coming in straight away in training.

"With Georgia, you can see she likes the ball and is a good passer. She's a baller and that will be really good for us."

It's not just additions this summer at Arsenal with the Gunners losing experienced players such at Beth Mead and Katie McCabe.

Laia Codina, Victoria Pelova and Manuela Zinsberger have also left the club and while Caldentey is aware of the experience departing the club, she believes it is also an opportunity for the different players to strep up and fill the void left behind.

She said: "We've lost a lot of experience with big players with big characters leaving, but that is football.

"People leave and people come but we need to adapt quickly and find new roles.

"We have enough experience in the players we have signed. Some of them are quite young but they are already ready. We have a good balance.

"When players leave that is a new opportunity for other players.

"We have a really good squad but hopefully everyone can step up again so that we can have a really good season."

'Fans could play crucial role in title challenge'

Memories of last season are still fresh with the Arsenal men's and women's victory parade around north London where hundreds of thousands of supporters lined the streets to celebrate a first Premier League title in 22 years for the men, and the women showing off the inaugural Women's Champions Cup they won against Brazilian side Corinthians in February round off a successful club campaign.

They were special times for Wubben-Moy, who believes the connection the team have with the fans could be a significant factor in their own bid to win the title for the first time since 2019.

"I think back to being a young girl and filling the stadium as a fan, but I also think about the stadiums we have filled in the last two to three years," she said.

"We need to understand that as players, we have a duty to serve the fans.

"The men's team feel the same way so to see a moment where we can celebrate with those people we gladly serve and see them out on the streets of north London, seeing all the joy was amazing.

"I saw a lot of friends out that day on the route and on the bus stops. It was incredible.

"We already have a great connection with the fans but something like the parade, it creates an even deeper connection. It's definitely a positive for us and an advantage as a club because we have such a deep connection with the fans, the streets and the people."
