According to Sébastien Denis, a journalist for French media outlet Foot Mercato, 30-year-old Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin is close to leaving Monaco, with Russian Premier League club Zenit St. Petersburg monitoring his situation.

Denis previously reported that Monaco is in discussions with Russian club Zenit and several Saudi clubs over Golovin's transfer, with a fee estimated at around 25 million euros, which would help Monaco reduce its wage bill.

The Russian Premier League transfer window closes on September 10. In addition to Zenit, FC Spartak Moscow is also monitoring Golovin's availability.

Golovin rose to prominence during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Following the tournament, he joined Monaco from CSKA Moscow for a transfer fee of 30 million euros. To date, he has made 270 appearances for Monaco, scoring 40 goals and providing 47 assists.
