Leicester City manager Russell Martin has heavily criticized his team's performance following a 0-4 home defeat to Oxford United, bluntly stating that the loss was "painful" and "unacceptable."

Leicester City suffered a heavy 0-4 home defeat to Oxford United in League One, with Russell Martin's side managing just one win in their last five matches.

In this match, Leicester City conceded their heaviest defeat of the 2024/25 season at the King Power Stadium. Leicester have now lost two of their three home League One matches this season.

After the match, Russell Martin said: "It's painful, really painful. Today, we looked completely the opposite of what we've shown before."

"Previously, we were very unified, very aggressive, and always ready to fight for each other. But today, for about 25 minutes in the second half, our performance was unacceptable."

On the team's poor start, Martin said: "We had a really poor start because that opening goal was terrible. But then we actually got back into the game, and I thought we completely dominated for a period in the first half."

"But the issue was at the start. We weren't competitive enough, and too often we lost the ball after each contested situation. We played too soft."

Martin also highlighted serious issues in set-piece situations: "Today we had five throw-ins from midfield, and three of them resulted in the opposition creating chances in front of our goal, which is crazy. I think this shows a lack of experience on the pitch and sometimes poor decision-making on our part."

"Then we started trying to chase the game, but against a team that's very good on the counter-attack, we got caught out in transition repeatedly. I made a few changes, bringing off some of our more experienced players, hoping to inject some energy into the game."

Finally, Martin concluded: "We have to learn from this. I think at stages late in the game, our team is still too young and lacks experience. We played naively and we were too soft."
