Following Sunday's loss to Arsenal, John Terry believes Reece James should have put more pressure on the referee after Ederson was kicked in the head, and that Chelsea should have been better at employing gamesmanship, something Arsenal players excel at.

The new Chelsea under Xavi Alonso had hoped to prove their title credentials at the home of the defending champions.

The Blues started well, with Morgan Rogers scoring an early opener. But Arsenal's strength and experience ultimately prevailed, with the Gunners winning 2-1.

While Terry saw many positives from the defeat, he believes it was a lack of defensive intensity and lapses in concentration that led to the defensive error on Havertz's equalizing goal.

"Reece should have dropped back and closed off that space. Then Havertz would have had to go wide and use his weaker foot. But there was a gap, and Havertz cut inside and shot with his left foot," Terry said on his channel.

The club legend also stated that his former club missed an opportunity early in the game when Ederson was kicked in the head by Gabriel.

The Arsenal defender was not penalized. However, Terry believes that if Chelsea's on-field captain and other key players had put more pressure on the referee after seeing their goalkeeper in such pain, VAR might have intervened.

"I think we missed a great opportunity to get Gabriel sent off," he added.

"The closest players to the incident were Hato and João Felix. If it were me, seeing our goalkeeper in such pain, I would immediately gather around the referee and say: 'Ref, he kicked the goalkeeper right in the head,' to put pressure on the referee."

"I know people don't like this approach, but we are here to fight for three points and challenge for the league title."

"I think we need to be better at employing gamesmanship, as Arsenal players are strong and excel at it."
