Schmeichel believes that Chelsea goalkeeper E. Martinez will be the best signing in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea had originally planned to keep Robert Sánchez as their starting goalkeeper this season, but nine days ago, the club signed E. Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5 million.

Sánchez then joined Serie A side Como on loan for the remainder of the season.

E. Martinez is an Argentine World Cup winner with extensive Premier League experience. Schmeichel believes Chelsea has found a "world-class" goalkeeper at great value.

"I have to say that transfer fees are ridiculously high right now, and I really don't understand how clubs can sustain such spending," Schmeichel said.

"I was looking through the list of signings, and one name that everyone overlooked was E. Martinez. In my opinion, he could be the best signing of the season."

"He cost only £7.5 million, but he is a top, top world-class goalkeeper. Top quality for just £7.5 million.

Regarding the signing of E. Martinez, Xavi Alonso said: "Emi is a World Cup winner, 33 years old, and very experienced.

"I've spoken with him; we talked about the game and our team. He's ready and doesn't need much instruction from me to perform at a high level.

Right now, the goalkeeper's goal is to keep a clean sheet, and I'm already pleased with the impact he's made. He's only been with the team for 48 hours, and we have a whole week to prepare for the next match.

Day after day, we can feel his presence. He has charisma and a strong aura that can motivate the entire team and build very positive chemistry with his teammates."
