On September 9, Hamburger SV officially announced that the club has obtained approval from relevant authorities to expand the Volksparkstadion, increasing its capacity to over 60,000 seats.

Hamburger SV stated that preparations for the expansion project have already begun, with the first phase of renovation expected to start in October. As the team is still in its regular season, construction will primarily be scheduled during intervals between home matches to minimize disruption to normal play.

The expansion will be carried out in phases. The first phase will involve renovating the A-level stands by adding seats in the stair and aisle areas to increase capacity. Subsequently, the club plans to continue expanding the B and C-level stands, adding more seats in the stepped aisle sections.

The final phase will further expand the A-level stands on the side closer to the pitch. Additionally, with the increased stadium capacity, Hamburger SV will also construct additional restroom facilities, further improving the infrastructure of the Volksparkstadion.

Hamburger SV stated that specific construction phases and their impact on match days will be communicated closely with the ticketing and fan relations departments. The club hopes to create more seats as soon as possible, allowing more fans to attend matches in person.

Meanwhile, Hamburger SV also emphasized that it will strive to ensure an optimal viewing experience for existing fans, especially season ticket holders. Fans in adjacent seats affected by the expansion will receive advance notification of relevant changes. The availability of newly added seats for purchase will depend on the actual construction progress.

Funding for this expansion project will be provided by the HSV Supporters Trust. This organization pools funds generated from Hamburger SV supporters and primarily uses them to purchase shares in HSV Fußball AG & Co. KGaA. These funds will support the expansion of the Volksparkstadion.

Hamburger SV stated that this expansion will not only allow more fans to enter the stadium but also enhance the club's financial position, creating more resources for future development.
