Milner said in a podcast that Klopp's high standards and demanding training regimen set him apart.

Milner played for Liverpool for 8 seasons. During his time at Anfield, the versatile midfielder was a key player under Klopp, and the team won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. Milner left Liverpool in 2023.
Klopp departed Liverpool a year later, stepping away from football management before returning this summer to manage the German national team. Milner discussed his time under Klopp on "The Good, The Bad & The Football" podcast, sponsored by Midnite.
Speaking with Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, Milner said: "I think the best thing about Jürgen Klopp is probably that what you see is what you get. Some people are completely different on and off camera."
He continued: "He's full of energy and incredibly demanding in everything. I remember his first Christmas party—we'd lost away to Watford, and everyone was down when we returned to the training ground, but he said: 'This is for all the staff. No matter what we do, we have to do it well. If we train, we train well; if we play, we play well; if we celebrate, we celebrate well.'"
Milner added: "His standards are very high and infectious. Early on, the training sessions were brutally tough—unbelievable, really. Players would be sick on the sidelines. He was that demanding."
Scholes and Butt then asked Milner which victory he preferred: Manchester City's 6-1 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2011, or Liverpool's 7-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield in 2023.
Milner replied: "That's probably the best question I've been asked. Both games were incredible. As a Leeds United fan who grew up in Leeds, it's hard to separate them. But I think the Manchester City game had more significance because that was the season we won the league title for the first time, and the game came early in the campaign. I think that win gave us the belief to go on and win the title."
He concluded: "It's hard to really separate the two, but I'd say the Manchester City game made us believe we could dethrone Manchester United."
