Villarreal strolled to a comprehensive 5-0 Europa League demolition of Rapid Vienna on Thursday evening and it could have been even more had they taken the lead earlier, as they undoubtedly should have.

Pablo Fornals gave the LaLiga Santander side the lead with 26 minutes played, as Karl Toko Ekambi got the ball stuck between his feet, passing up on his own chance to score, before picking out the oncoming Fornals to tap in from close range.

The pair swapped roles eight minutes later as Fornals provided for Ekambi, who had been suffering in front of goal until that point, but made no mistake as he finished emphatically when in one-on-one.

It became three just before half time, with Ekambi getting his head on a cross and turning it into the net.

Things then calmed somewhat at the beginning of the second half until Ekambi teed up Dani Raba to make it four shortly after the hour mark.

Gerard Moreno made it five late on as Villarreal caught their visitors with a quick counterattack, started by a Santi Cazorla ball forward, to rub further salt in their wounds.
