Sassuolo officially announced that Aquilani has returned to the club as head coach of the first team.

Sassuolo Football Club officially announced: Alberto Aquilani has been appointed as the new head coach of the team's first team.

Aquilani was born in Rome in 1984. During his playing career, he had a rich resume, playing for many top clubs such as Roma, Liverpool, Juventus, and AC Milan. In January 2017, he joined Sassuolo, playing 16 games for the team, accumulating 1237 minutes. He left an excellent impression on everyone at the club, both for his skills and his character.

In July 2019, Aquilani officially began his coaching career, initially coaching the Fiorentina U18 youth team, and soon after becoming a technical assistant to first-team coach Giuseppe Iachini, serving until the end of that season.

In July 2020, he took over the Fiorentina youth team. During his tenure, the team successively won the Italian Youth Cup in 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2021/22, and also won the Italian Youth Super Cup in the corresponding seasons. In the 2022/23 season, he led the team to third place in the league regular season and second place in the playoffs, and he himself was named the best coach of the Serie A Youth League that season.

In June 2023, Aquilani coached the Serie B club Pisa, where the team accumulated 46 points that season, ranking 13th in the league. After a year of rest, he went to Catanzaro to coach. Under the yellow and red army, the team scored 59 points and ranked fifth, surpassing Avellino and Palermo to advance to the promotion play-offs. In the two-legged play-off against Monza, the aggregate score was a draw, and Monza ultimately secured promotion to Serie A due to a higher league ranking.
