On the talkSPORT podcast, former Manchester United star Bryan Robson believes that after confirming the signing of Carlos Baleba, United should continue pushing to recruit Lewis Hall.

United have signed several midfielders, but still face staffing shortages in other positions. This issue was exposed in their 0-2 defeat to Hull City in the opening round of the new season. Luke Shaw, who played every Premier League match for United last season, was partly responsible for Hull's second goal, and he is currently the club's only senior left-back option.

Moreover, with United returning to the Champions League and considering Shaw's history of injuries, there are concerns about whether the 31-year-old's fitness can withstand the increased workload.

Throughout the summer transfer window, United were linked with signing Hall. Reports suggest Hall's valuation is around £60 million.

Robson said: "If you're going to be competing in cup competitions and the Champions League, there will be a lot of matches in a season. So basically, you always need to have two strong players in the same position.

"Luke Shaw is a very good player, but Hall would be an excellent addition to our squad. However, given the club's financial situation and the fact that you've just spent £70 million on Baleba, you never know if the club has enough funds to sign another player like that. We've spent a lot of money, so it's a trade-off, and you have to evaluate which positions are most important."

Robson also believes United can compete for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, though he insists defending champions Arsenal remain "the hardest team to beat."

He added: "I don't think we're that far behind Manchester City. Especially since they changed manager. Yes, they've signed some good players, but at the same time, their squad has also been weakened as some key players left in the summer. So I think the top four in the Premier League this season will look quite similar to last season.

"Arsenal look very strong; they've made some excellent signings in the summer, and with their current players, Arsenal will be the hardest team to beat. I think next will be Man City, Liverpool, and us. However, Chelsea have also made a very good start, and signing Rodgers was an excellent deal. I was surprised they managed to sign him, as I think he's a very good player."
