According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Milan have accepted Galatasaray's bid for Rafael Leao. The Portuguese left winger still needs to agree to the move, which keeps Aston Villa, who also have concrete interest, hopeful.

Leao's contract with Milan runs until mid-2028, but for some time he has not hidden his desire to leave the Italian capital. The 27-year-old winger is close to a transfer regardless.

Milan have accepted Galatasaray's offer of €45 million in total. Now it remains to be seen whether Leao will actually move to Turkey, as The Athletic reported earlier this week that Leao prefers to join a Premier League club.

However, Galatasaray are doing their utmost to persuade the player, who has earned 49 caps for the Portuguese national team, and are offering him an annual salary of €10-12 million after tax. Galatasaray and Leao have not yet reached an agreement, and Villa hope to capitalize on this opportunity to push through the transfer.

Leao joined Milan in 2019 and has since made 293 appearances for the Rossoneri. He has scored 80 goals and provided 65 assists, making an important contribution to the team, though his performances have not been as decisive as in previous seasons.

If he joins Galatasaray, Leao will compete with Barış Alper Yılmaz, currently the main left winger. Leao would be Galatasaray's second major signing this summer, following the acquisition of Aleksey Batrakov. The 21-year-old Russian attacking midfielder joined from Lokomotiv Moscow for €25 million.

Villa previously sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea during this transfer window and are now about to part ways with Ollie Watkins. The English forward will join Al-Hilal for €60 million.

Villa signed Zion Suzuki, Matteo Ruggeri, João Gomes and John Manzambi earlier this summer, and brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alejandro Garnacho on loan. Manager Unai Emery hopes to sign Leao and quickly add his desired attacking reinforcement.
