According to The Mirror, following Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, manager Andoni Iraola criticized the fourth official, and goalkeeper Alisson kicked a hole in the substitution board in frustration.

In Saturday's early kickoff at Anfield, Victor Muñoz scored in the dying moments to secure a point for Liverpool. The match was eventful, and while Iraola acknowledged his team's poor first-half performance, he was also highly critical of the refereeing team, believing their decisions may have inadvertently favored Forest.

Before Forest's second goal, Iraola was attempting to make triple substitutions. However, Alisson fouled Neco Williams in the box, and Sylvain Gibbs-White converted the resulting penalty. Fourth official Tim Robinson failed to prepare the substitution board in time, allowing Forest to quickly take a throw-in and catch Liverpool off guard.

The camera captured Iraola gesturing angrily at Robinson as he delayed updating the substitution board. Iraola remained visibly frustrated in his post-match interview.

Iraola told TNT Sports: "I will review that penalty, but a professional fourth official cannot take three minutes to prepare a substitution."

He continued: "We had requested the substitution two or three minutes earlier. I was frustrated because we couldn't make the change at the last stoppage. Before the throw-in, I said 'make the change now,' but I cannot explain why it took so long to prepare two substitution boards."

Alisson was furious about the penalty decision and received a yellow card for protesting to referee Sam Barrott. After the final whistle, the veteran goalkeeper remained angry and was filmed kicking a substitution board, putting a hole in it.

This draw marked Liverpool's second consecutive stalemate to start the 2026/27 season, following a 2-2 draw with Newcastle the previous weekend. Forest had opened the scoring when Liverpool failed to clear a long ball, allowing Matheus Nunes to find the net. Then Alexander Isak equalized with a close-range finish from Luis Díaz's cross, before a subsequent penalty put the visitors ahead. In the 82nd minute, Muñoz unleashed a powerful shot that struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced in, earning Liverpool a point.

Iraola stated: "This is not the result we wanted. I think there was a significant difference between the first and second halves. We played poorly in the first half, and even with that poor performance, their goal was somewhat fortunate for them."

He added: "We were very poor in the first half, much better in the second half. The intensity was completely different. If you're going to play poorly, you have to play like we did in the second half. The intensity was much higher, and we were more threatening. I'm satisfied with our second-half performance, although it came too late in the match."
