Napoli striker Højlund acknowledged that he feels "freer" under Allegri, but the team "failed to create many chances" in their 1-2 home defeat to Como.
Højlund was Napoli's sole goalscorer in Sunday's home loss to Como.
"The season is still long, and we still have a chance to compete for the top spot," Højlund told DAZN after the match.
Allegri pointed out that the team's defense was too "weak" and believed Napoli should have defended more solidly.
"That's certainly something we need to improve, but the attack also needs to improve because I felt we had very few chances in this match," the Danish striker said.
"Last season, Conte was very strict with me, asking me to play with my back to goal. This season, I have more freedom, and I hope to score more goals with that."
