Match Report

Robin Meissner's extraordinary opener gave Osnabruck a shock early lead, only for first-half strikes from Harry Kane and Tom Bischof to quickly turn the game on its head.

Vincent Kompany's side got themselves over the line thanks to Michael Olise's 73rd-minute finish, with Kane also tucking away a late penalty to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Bayern were, however, stunned with a moment of individual brilliance in the fifth minute from Meissner, with the Osnabruck striker winning his battle against Jonathan Tah and Kim Min-Jae before rifling a sensational strike into the top-right corner from 25 yards out.

However, Bayern hauled themselves level through Kane, who volleyed into the net from close range after Robin Fabinski failed to deal with Joshua Kimmich's ball into the box.

The comeback was complete in the 24th minute when Bischof tucked home inside the penalty area after Luis Diaz had seen his initial attempt kept out by Jonas Krumrey.

Olise came close to pulling Bayern further clear in first-half stoppage time, but Osnabruck goalkeeper Krumrey got down low to his right to thwart his curling shot.

Bayern maintained their dominance after the break, with Olise and Ismael Saibari both going close, but their pressure was rewarded 17 minutes before the full-time whistle.

Jannik Muller's loose pass into midfield was picked off by substitute Lennart Karl as he fed in Olise, who rode the challenge of Fabinski before clipping the ball over Krumrey.

The result was sealed four minutes from time after Muller fouled Aleksandar Pavlovic inside the penalty area, with Kane dispatching the spot-kick into the bottom-right corner.

King Kane equals DFB-Pokal history for Bayern

Ahead of kick-off, Kompany acknowledged that his Bayern team would face a "real battle" against Osnabruck to begin their DFB-Pokal title defence, and his team will certainly leave the Stadion an der Bremer Brucke knowing they have been in a match.

Bayern followed up their 5-1 thrashing of Stuttgart in their Bundesliga opener by scoring four more goals, with Kane opening his account for the 2026-27 campaign while also continuing his fine form in this competition.

Kane has now scored in seven consecutive DFB-Pokal matches, equalling Bayern's club record, which had only been achieved by Gerd Muller from 1967 to 1968 and Thomas Muller, who did so from 2013 to 2014.

Olise also showcased his quality from out wide, creating more chances (six), completing more dribbles (six) and winning more duels (nine) than any other player on the pitch, while also registering a joint-team-high total number of touches in the opposition box for Bayern (11, level with Kimmich).

Ultimately, Bayern's quality eventually told. They finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 3.11 from their 22 shots compared to Osnabruck's tally of 0.13 from their five attempts, with Kompany's men now turning their attention to a trip to Schalke on Saturday.
