The Scottish Premiership transfer window is closed after more than 120 new signings.

There have also been plenty of departures as clubs hope the season will shape up to be as dramatic as the last.

We answer some key questions after a busy summer of transfer activity.

Will Celtic be happier or frustrated after deadline?

There's certainly frustration from the fans about how this window has ended for Celtic. But the Hoops hierarchy are likely to be content with the business they've done - while recognising it could've been better.

They have brought in £49.5m from player sales - with Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate being the big-name outgoings.

A total of £36.2m has been spent on strengthening the squad - breaking their transfer record with the £11m+ signing of Kasper Hogh, as well as splashing cash for Camilo Duran, Haissem Hassan, Mika Baur and Joel van den Berg.

Hogh and Duran are Champions League-type signings - with the latter already making a huge impact at Celtic Park.

What Celtic will be most frustrated about is not getting their prime midfield target Gvidas Gineitis after lengthy talks with Torino. I'm told this is one that could be reignited in the January window.

On the attacking side Celtic look okay and seem to have no issue with scoring goals now, which was a problem last season. The jury is out on their three new central midfielders and whether Engels has been truly replaced with quality.

It's also going to be a wait-and-see game to determine whether Chelsea teenager Landon Emenalo is sufficient cover for Kieran Tierney at left-back - a job-share role in which the more seasoned Marcelo Saracchi excelled in last term.

Celtic's starting eleven does still look strong - and is perhaps stronger than last season. But, there are still questions about the quality of the squad depth. The business the Hoops did after crashing out of the Champions League has been underwhelming and that will remain the focus for many fans as this window closes."

Will quantity mean quality for Rangers?

For a second successive summer, Rangers have signed 14 players.

The Deadline Day additions of striker Kevin Kelsy for £9.2m from Portland Timbers and Stuttgart winger Badredine Bouanani on loan will give boss Derek McInnes new options in attack. It's now over to the Ibrox manager to get the best out of his new recruits.

A tough start to the season saw Rangers fail to win their opening two league games before being knocked out of both the Europa League and Conference League. It would have been cause for concern.

However, those within Ibrox knew this summer was all about a big rebuild and patience would be required. From the 14 players who signed last summer, just four remain at the club - that tells its own story about the change over 12 months.

Rangers have added in EVERY position, and they have spent big. In addition to the £9m-plus outlay for Kelsy, Ivor Pandur arrived for £6m, and the impressive Minsu Kim signed in a £8.5m move from Girona, while deals for Olewthu Makhanya, Daisuke Yokota and Vanja Dragojevic cost around £10m in total.

There were some notable departures but Nicolas Raskin looks set to remain at Ibrox despite late offers from Besiktas, while Youssef Chermiti's ACL injury ended any potential of a big-money exit for the striker.

While keeping key players is a bonus, some who may struggle for action like John Souttar, Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland remain.

McInnes has been left with a first-team squad just shy of 30 players. That provides him options, but also the task of keeping everyone happy.

However, his hardest test will now be to please the Ibrox faithful with silverware using the new tools at his disposal.

Who signed the most players?

It's been a summer overhaul at Falkirk. Owen Eames' Deadline Day arrival means 17 players joined the club as John McGlynn was forced to rebuild after losing 14.

He lost his top five goalscorers from last season - Barney Stewart, Calvin Miller, Dylan Tait, Ben Broggio and Brian Graham.

McGlynn has managed to hold on to Brad Spencer with the club rejecting what he called an "embarrassing" offer for the midfielder from Dundee United.

Given the sheer volume of new faces, replicating last season's top-six success could be an uphill struggle.

The Bairns have just two own-goals for them so far this season, but the manager is backing new forward Jacob Murrell to find his goalscoring form after he missed a couple of glorious chances against Rangers on Wednesday night.

What were the other highlights of the summer?

Motherwell and St Mirren look to have recruited well for their entertaining styles of play.

Alex Lowry and the Steelmen appear a match made in heaven. It would have been easy for the Steelmen to really struggle to replace midfield creativity with the departures of Elliot Watt, Elijah Just and Callum Slattery but Lowry, Jardell Kanga, Joe Hodge and Dylan Levitt look like good acquisitions.

Similarly at St Mirren, Paul Nsio looks like he could be a revelation on loan from Rangers while Samuel Ramos and Ismeal Kabia have caught the eye as part of their unbeaten start to the season.

After a difficult start to the window with some high-profile departures, perhaps the highlight for Hearts fans has been keeping hold of last season's Player of the Year Claudio Braga.

City rivals Hibs haven't been able to enjoy Jacob Devaney's services for long yet but the early signs, on top of his St Mirren form last season, suggest he could be a really good piece of business, especially with the option to buy at the conclusion of his loan.

On paper Aberdeen's wide signings Tony Yogane and Lewis Smith look like they could be useful at Pittodrie on the back of their performances for Dundee and Livingston. The problem is, no one at Aberdeen has really got going yet so they will all be hoping for improvements soon.

Dundee United are another club whose window highlight might well be keeping someone who was already there, Will Ferry. However, Dylan Tait has also put in some good performances since joining and Zidane Iqbal's arrival will excite fans.

Up the hill, Dundee have signed the fewest number of players in the Scottish Premiership. They'll hope striking recruits like Bobby Wales can help compensate for the loss of the injured Simon Murray.

Newly promoted St Johnstone will hope their late business will help them stay up too, with Josh Campbell joining from Hibs and Joel Cotterill from Swansea City.

Celtic spent big, but also sold big as they lost a number of their top performers.

Daizen Maeda had made no secret of his Premier League ambitions and there is no doubt his pace and attack will be missed after his £10m move to Ipswich.

He found form when it mattered last season, scoring seven goals in five Premiership matches as Celtic fought back to take the title from Hearts' grasp.

Reo Hatate had established himself as a Hoops fans favourite, but after falling out of favour, he made a £9m to Burnley to try and reignite his career.

The loss of Arne Engels may have felt inevitable, but the timing was far from ideal.

The Belgium international's move to West Ham netted Celtic £22m, but they were left with no time to replace him before their Champions League play-off exit.

Hearts have been left without Lawrence Shankland's goals, with the striker looking to be finding his form after his summer switch to Rangers with Cammy Devlin.

Falkirk striker Barney Stewart lit up the Scottish Premiership last season with 22 goals, securing him a move to West Brom just two years after he was playing university football.

There has been huge change at the Bairns and there is no doubt they are already missing his scoring prowess.

Motherwell also made a club-record sale as New Zealand international Elijah Just left for Swansea. A move worth £6m plus add-ons came just 12 months after his arrival at Fir Park.

Warren O'Hora had become an integral part of David Gray's squad at Hibs, but the defender made a "life-changing" move to Leicester City after two years and 85 appearances.
