According to L'Équipe, Aubameyang has not severed ties with the Gabonese national team, and previous reports claiming he would "no longer play" were misleading.

Some statements Aubameyang made on Canal+ Afrique's show "Talent d'Afrique" were misquoted—L'Équipe had also previously misreported the story. He did express frustration with being suspended by the Ministry of Sports following Gabon's group stage elimination at the last Africa Cup of Nations, but his words were far less inflammatory than media reports suggested. Importantly, he may be open to returning for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Aubameyang, along with Bruno Ecuele Manga, the coaching staff, and the entire team, was suspended by the Minister of Sports in a highly publicized televised announcement. Aubameyang expressed his bewilderment: "For me, this matter is currently unresolved. I was suspended, but I really don't understand why. Later the ban was lifted, which I also don't quite understand... I hope that those who made the decision would at least come and talk to me, but that didn't happen."
"I have never deceived anyone, especially in recent years. I expect dialogue. If I was suspended without cause, I want to know why, and perhaps an apology. This has damaged my reputation, when in fact we are a team representing our country. It's hard to see my name tarnished like this. I came back while injured, did my best to stay fit, but things didn't go as planned. So right now, I'm in limbo with the national team."
