In an interview with CBS Sports, Fabregas was asked which of his former managers' coaching style most resembles his own. In response, he said he learned many things from every manager he worked with, but if he had to choose one, it would be Wenger, and he elaborated on the impact of Wenger's coaching philosophy on him.

Carragher: Cesc, you're currently one of the most talked-about young managers in European football. At the same time, throughout your playing career, you played under some of the greatest managers in football history. If someone watched your team play for the first time tonight, which of the managers you've worked with do you think your team's current playing style most resembles or comes closest to?

Oh, Jamie, that's a great question, really excellent (laughs). It's difficult to answer. I could give an answer that sounds "politically correct," but it's also true—I learned something from every manager I worked with.

If I had to choose one, I think it would definitely be Wenger. Because when I played under Wenger, we didn't train much on tactics. Perhaps that's because times have changed, and I do more in that area nowadays.

But what was very clever about Wenger was that he was excellent at selecting players. He knew which players could understand his football and which ones suited his style best. For example, intelligent players, players who could operate between the lines, players who could attack into space, and players who could read the game in different ways.

I think that was also one of Wenger's most important and defining characteristics as a manager during that period. He knew exactly what type of player he wanted to bring to the club, and he was able to help those players improve, then put them on the same pitch together to make a difference.

So I think we want to control the ball and play directly when we have the opportunity. When opponents press man-to-man aggressively, we try to exploit the space behind them; if they use more of a zonal defense, we look for the corresponding spaces. We assess each phase of the match and then think about how we can hurt the opponent in that phase.

And every match is different. In each match, the opposing coaches and players will do different things. So we just want to build our own football philosophy. I think we had a very clear playing style and team identity at Arsenal back then, and now we can follow that path. We'll try to do that.
