According to COPE, Spain national team coach Luis de la Fuente will announce his first national squad list after the 2026 World Cup on Friday, September 18. The list will be released at 11:30 AM local time, and De la Fuente will then attend a press conference at 12:30 PM.

This will be the first gathering of the Spanish team since winning the World Cup. De la Fuente will largely be able to call up players who participated in the World Cup, though Marcos Llorente has retired from international football and Iglesias will not be included in this squad.

Currently, the most scrutinized position is right-back. Porro is expected to be called up again, but his competition for the position remains uncertain. De la Fuente could choose to bring an extra center-back and deploy Eric García or Marc Públill at right-back.

Óscar Mingueza has also been called up by De la Fuente in the past, but he is currently getting very little playing time at Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, Carvajal is still without a club, which further increases the uncertainty at the right-back position.

Spain will travel to Wembley to face England on September 26, then host Croatia at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville on September 29. On October 3, the team will play against the Czech Republic at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium in Oviedo, and on October 6, they will travel to Split to face Croatia again. 

The selected players for this squad will report to the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas on Tuesday, September 22, at 1:00 PM local time.

Additionally, on the same day De la Fuente announces the senior national team squad, Spain U21 coach David Gordo will also announce his new squad list to prepare for the final three qualification matches for the 2027 U21 European Championship. This tournament will be held in Serbia and Albania.
