Ex-Manchester United and Arsenal ace Robin van Persie is now embarking on a new project after his first senior managerial role came to an end

Former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Robin van Persie has become a global ambassador for e-bike brand ENGWE. At the end of last season, Van Persie's managerial role with Feyenoord came to an end after 16 months.

He earned Champions League qualification with the Dutch side after finishing second in the Eredivisie but was surprisingly relieved of his duties. The ex-striker's exit took place not long after the club appointed Devy Rigaux as technical director and Robert Eenhoorn as general manager.

Now, a few months after his departure, it's been announced that the Dutchman, who scored 144 goals and contributed 59 assists in 280 Premier League appearances, will work in an ambassadorial capacity for the global e-bike brand.

After the new role with ENGWE was announced, Van Persie said: "Throughout my career, reliability has always mattered. Being able to trust the people around you, your equipment and your decisions.

"That is one of the things that attracted me to ENGWE. Today, staying active and finding better ways to move are just as important to me.”

A spokesperson for the brand also said: "Robin represents performance, discipline and reliability, but also an active way of life that goes far beyond football.

"Together, we want to make e-mobility a more natural part of everyday life and inspire more people to move, explore and enjoy every ride.”

Van Persie is yet to return to football after leaving Feyenoord, who hired his former Netherlands team-mate and ex-Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as his successor.

He still has a firm connection to the club, with his son Shaqueel van Persie turning out for the Dutch giants. Last season, the ex-United forward was the one who gave Shaqueel his senior debut for the Rotterdam side.

When asked why he turned to his son, who is also a left-footed striker, during a 3-1 Europa League defeat to Celtic, Van Persie replied: "I made that call as a coach, not as a dad because we needed a goal.

"Shaqueel is a player who can score a goal from all angles. That was the reason I brought him on. From a father's point of view, when your son makes his debut that is always a special moment. But I wasn't that busy with enjoying that moment, I was doing my work like Shaqueel was."
