Florida Cup 2018: What's it about and how does it work?

Rangers might be in the middle of the Scottish winter break, but Graeme Murty's men will be in action on Thursday as they take on Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro.

The two sides will meet in the Florida Cup - a mid-season tournament held, as the name suggests, in the USA's sunshine state.

Here, Sportsmail tells you everything you need to know about the eight-team event.

WHAT IS THE FLORIDA CUP?

The Florida Cup is a mid-season tournament held across Orlando, Lauderhill and St Petersburg in Florida, USA.

The 2018 edition is the fourth time the tournament has been played, with Bundesliga clubs Wolfsburg and Cologne among the previous winners.

WHERE ARE THE MATCHES BEING PLAYED?

Four stadiums will be used for this year's tournament - Orlando City Stadium, Spectrum Stadium, Central Broward Stadium and Al Lang Stadium.

WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE?

The tournament is being held over 10 days between January 10 and January 20.

In the opening game on Wednesday night, Corinthians beat PSV 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Orlando City Stadium.

WHAT TEAMS ARE INVOLVED?

Eight teams from all over the world are taking part in this year's tournament.

They are: Rangers (Scotland), PSV (Holland), Corinthians (Brazil), Atletico Mineiro (Brazil), Fluminense (Brazil), Barcelona SC (Ecuador) , Legia Warsaw (Poland) and Atletico Nacional (Colombia).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Each team will play two games during the 10-day period, with the winners being the team that have the most points after their two fixtures.

Teams are awarded three points for a win and one for a draw. A penalty shootout will be played if a match is drawn, with the winners being awarded an extra point.

If two or more teams are level on points after their two games, the tournament winner will be decided by number of wins, then goal difference, then goals scored, then goals against.
