According to RMC, several videos circulating on social media show a heated confrontation between Algeria and Austria in the closing stages of their 3-3 draw in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

He was one of the key figures, both on and off the pitch, in the thrilling match that took place from Saturday evening into Sunday morning. Starting in the lineup, 37-year-old Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring for Austria by capitalizing on goalkeeper Oussama Benbot's hesitation.
Arnautovic loses his cool
The former Inter Milan striker, after being substituted off by Michael Gregoritsch in the first half, continued in a leadership role—arguably overstepping at times. Videos on social media show him arguing with Algeria's substitutes and staff members. One such video appears to have been recorded after Riyad Mahrez scored the third goal in the 90+3rd minute, when tensions were already running high.
Minutes later, when Sasa Kalajdzic equalized in the 90+6th minute, the tension on the pitch remained intense. Both teams continued shouting with exaggerated gestures. During this time, Arnautovic made a provocative gesture—putting his finger to his lips and waving his hand as if signaling Algeria's bench to be silent. The referee's team intervened multiple times, and Austria's coach Ralf Rangnick also made efforts to calm the situation.
The hot-headed striker, who previously played for Stoke City and West Ham United, joined Red Star Belgrade last summer. He is currently Austria's leading goalscorer with 49 goals and holds the record for most international caps with 136 appearances. Although he no longer always starts, he remains a central figure in the squad.
