According to Sport, Joan Laporta's new Barcelona board will add 5 new members, bringing the total to 22 directors.

The new board will hold its first meeting at the club's offices before Joan Laporta officially takes office as Barcelona president. This board will manage Barça for the next 5 seasons. The initial step involves current directors stepping down, specifically 7 directors who will stay to manage the club after others resign to run in the election that Laporta's slate won, defeating the competing ticket led by Victor Font.
These seven will be appointed as directors by Laporta, but their positions will need to be confirmed at the first general assembly meeting held by the new board. That assembly will also discuss other important matters related to the club's future.
In addition to these 7 directors, Elena Fort, Antonio Escudero, Ferran Olivé, Xavier Barbany, Xavier Puig, Josep Maria Albert, Mikel Camps, Aureli Mas, and Joan Soler will retain their positions.
There will also be 5 new faces—5 directors Laporta announced during his election campaign: Carme Hortalà, Carles Ayats, Xavier Berniell, Jaume Santiveri, and Jaume Nícolas.
Carme Hortalà previously chaired Barcelona's economic committee, a position that will be taken over by economist Oriol Amat. Carme Hortalà is the daughter of Joan Hortalà, former president of the Barcelona Stock Exchange, a councilor for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, and a member of parliament. She is an economist herself and has spent much of her career at the family business GVC. She is also president of the Barcelona Financial Cluster, director of the Catalan Finance Institute and pharmaceutical company Labiana, and a board member of Parlem. She is likely to join the economic team of the board, which Laporta hopes to strengthen in this term.
Carles Ayats, who holds a degree in Economics and Business Science from Autonomous University of Barcelona, is no stranger to Barcelona circles. He was part of Jaume Ferrer's election slate for club president in 2010, which was won by Sandro Rosell. At that time, Jaume Ferrer was the successor candidate for the board that was completing its term under Laporta's leadership. Ayats, a real estate developer, will also strengthen Barcelona's economic department.
Another new member is Xavier Berniell. He is the owner of Berga Resort, a luxury campsite in Girona province. He also operates nursing homes.
Jaume Santiveri is a prominent executive in the real estate sector, managing several hotels in Castelldefels and Sitges. The other Jaume, Jaume Nícolas, is an entrepreneur from Vilafranca del Penedès with extensive experience in the automotive industry, running car dealerships. He is the owner of Nima Group and met Laporta during the previous election campaign in 2021.
Barcelona's board size will increase to 22 members. According to club bylaws, the board can currently have a maximum of 25 members. This provision has been in effect since the general assembly approved increasing the maximum number of board members from 21 to 25 in October 2021. The minimum number of board members is 14.
Beyond the new faces, the board will also have new role assignments. Rafa Yuste will continue as first vice president and oversee sports matters, as in the previous term. Elena Fort and Antonio Escudero will continue as vice presidents, and Joan Soler and Ferran Olivé will also become vice presidents. The former will oversee marketing, and the latter the economic department. These two vice president positions have been vacant since Juli Guiu and Eduard Romeu stepped down.
Xavier Puig will continue to oversee women's football. As for who will lead the basketball department, that remains to be decided. This position was previously held by Josep Cubells until Laporta stepped down. Xisco Pujol oversaw this department during the transition period and may continue, with hopes that it will thrive again after years without titles.
