According to Uruguayan media outlet El Observador, Bielsa is currently returning from Mexico. He will depart from Playa del Carmen on Sunday local time and arrive in Montevideo on Monday afternoon. Some Uruguayan players, officials, and AUF staff remain in Mexico, and the AUF is coordinating their return to their residences or Uruguay via commercial flights. AUF President Ignacio Alonso will return to the country after the last delegation member departs.

Uruguay was eliminated early from the Copa América tournament held in the United States, ultimately finishing 37th among 48 participating teams.

The decision to hold this press conference was proposed by Bielsa himself during a meeting with AUF President Alonso on Sunday local time, and both parties subsequently agreed to it.

A similar situation occurred last November during an international break, when Uruguay suffered a 1-5 defeat to the United States in a friendly match. Upon returning to Montevideo, Bielsa held a press conference lasting more than an hour, describing himself as a "toxic figure" within the team. Days later, the Uruguay Football Association confirmed he would continue as national team coach.

The Uruguay Football Association stated that all journalists, cameramen, and photographers wishing to cover this press conference must present a valid AUF ID credential, which will be the only acceptable identification for entry to the press room.
