According to Spanish media, Chinese goalkeeper Li Changyi has once again found a club in Spain.

The Chinese goalkeeper will turn 23 in July. Based on his profile, he will likely celebrate this birthday as a member of a Spanish club. Whether he will get playing time next season is another matter entirely. Since moving from youth competitions to senior teams in the 2021-22 season, Li Changyi has made only 7 official appearances.
From 2021 to now, he has played for four different clubs and competed in various Spanish Football Federation divisions, from Primera Federación to Segunda Federación and Tercera Federación. However, as mentioned, his playing time has been minimal.
Looking at statistics alone, his best season was 2023-24, when he made 6 appearances for Huesca B in Tercera Federación (Aragon group). Before that, he went through two consecutive seasons without a single official appearance, with no playing time at Brea and similarly at San Fernando CD.
This context makes his move to a higher-level San Fernando CD in the summer of 2022 noteworthy. At the time, many believed the signing was due to agent activity and corporate involvement. In retrospect, his subsequent demotion to compete for a spot with Huesca B seemed more understandable.
In May 2024, Segoviana achieved promotion to Primera Federación for the first time in club history. The club decided to retain most of the squad that secured promotion. Even with two goalkeepers considered as the first and second-choice options, the club signed Li Changyi as third-choice goalkeeper, though the process was conducted quietly with little publicity. Rumors circulated in the small town: some suggesting corporate involvement, others claiming the player paid to join Segoviana, but these rumors were never confirmed.
On a disastrous night in January 2025, Segoviana faced Real Unión away, trailing 0-3 with only 9 players on the pitch and over half an hour remaining. In that match, then-coach Ramsés Gil decided to protect his starting goalkeeper and substituted him.
This became Li Changyi's moment: he made not only his official debut for Segoviana but also his Primera Federación debut. His only previous notable appearance was in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid Castilla at Valdebebas in the summer of 2024, where the goalkeeper—who had been selected for multiple Chinese youth national teams—showcased his skills on the pitch.
In that match in Irún, Li Changyi put on his gloves and stepped onto the slippery grass, making one excellent save but also conceding two goals. Days later, he suffered a serious injury that ended his season prematurely. At that time, Segoviana was still searching for goalkeeper reinforcements. Ultimately, the club was relegated to Segunda Federación after losing to Numancia at home. The fans rewarded the team's fighting spirit with an extended standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes. Li Changyi was part of that squad.
During his season at Segovia, he was listed on the squad sheet as third-choice goalkeeper for most matches and received some playing time. In July 2025, the club announced a one-year contract extension with him, still as third-choice goalkeeper.
In his second season, rumors resurfaced about him paying to stay with the club; combined with his late return from Christmas break in China and reports of an unsuccessful attempt to find a new club there, these circumstances defined his second season in the blue and red. He only returned to Spain in February 2026 but did not play a single minute for the rest of the season.
This had little impact on the team. Segoviana led the league in December but subsequently declined consistently, eventually failing to qualify for the playoff round to promote to Primera Federación. Most players lacked discipline and commitment, focusing on other things rather than matches and training. Combined with the firing of coach Iñaki Bea in January when the situation was still relatively stable, the entire season spiraled out of control. At least regarding these issues, Li Changyi cannot be blamed.
Shortly after the season ended, Segoviana announced the departure of over 15 players, but Li Changyi was not among them. He has also not appeared in the confirmed squad list for the 2026-27 season. Given this goalkeeper's career trajectory, this "gap" is hardly surprising. Even if he is spotted back on Segoviana's bench, that would probably not be shocking either.
