On the "The Football Ramble" podcast, Premier League legend Alan Shearer stated that if Arsenal were to sign Alvarez, the suspense in the Premier League title race would effectively disappear.

Alan Shearer pointed out that Alvarez's absence from Atletico Madrid training on Wednesday could present an opportunity for Arsenal to finalize the transfer. The Argentine forward returned to action last weekend following his World Cup break, only to be booed by his own fans, and is now actively seeking to leave the club.

Although joining Barcelona is Alvarez's preference, given that Atletico Madrid refuses to sell him to a league rival, a move to Arsenal is clearly the more realistic option. With less than a week remaining in the summer transfer window, the deadline for Alvarez to complete a transfer is extremely tight.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Alvarez was scheduled to participate in Atletico Madrid's Wednesday training session but did not show up due to illness. Earlier, Shearer, the Premier League's all-time leading scorer, commented on Alvarez's situation and analyzed the possibility of Arsenal signing him.

"We all know that Barcelona has been pushing hard, and Atletico Madrid is very reluctant," Shearer said on "The Football Ramble" podcast. "Atletico Madrid's stance is probably: 'Even if we sell him, there's no way we're selling him to Barcelona.'"

"This makes it feel like Arsenal might have a slight chance, or a brief window of opportunity. If they can really get him, the Premier League title race will be completely transformed."

Host Micah Richards also spoke highly of the former Manchester City player, believing that Arsenal should prioritize signing Alvarez over strengthening other positions.

He said: "If I were in Arsenal's management, I would definitely prioritize signing a striker. Everyone can see Alvarez's situation at Atletico Madrid right now. He was booed by his own fans just days ago, and there are also reports that he wants to join Barcelona. But how could Atletico Madrid sell him to Barcelona?"

"Arsenal could make a quiet, exploratory offer. He is clearly unhappy... Once Arsenal sign Alvarez, the team's overall strength will definitely reach a new level."

However, the high transfer fee will be a major obstacle, with Atletico Madrid demanding over £100 million. According to The Athletic, Atletico Madrid will only consider offers around €150 million (approximately £128 million).

The 26-year-old star returned to action in Atletico Madrid's 2-2 draw against Villarreal last weekend, during which he was not only heavily booed by the home fans but was also escorted off the field by club staff shortly after the match while acknowledging the stands.
