Regarding the transfer controversy surrounding Alvarez, former Barcelona executive Toni Freixa made controversial remarks on social media.

At the Champions League draw ceremony in Monaco, Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin accused people close to the player of "deceiving and misleading" him, stating that there would be no negotiations with Barcelona.
Minutes later, Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste responded strongly, calling Gil Marin's remarks "inopportune" and "disrespectful," and accusing the other party of crossing a "red line."
Toni Freixa stated: "After hearing Gil Marin's unacceptable remarks, learning about the connection between FP (editor's note: implying Florentino Pérez) and the Atletico Madrid shareholders—which might explain that absurd €150 million offer—and facing this oppressive clause (a €490 million release clause), I hope Barcelona and Julian can make a 'checkmate' move in La Liga before Tuesday."
Freixa then explained: "If Julian pays a compensation fee to Atletico Madrid equivalent to the amount they invested to sign him plus his remaining unpaid salary, he can become a free agent, which is approximately €120 million."
