According to Argentina's La Nación newspaper, Franco Mastantuono, who joined Fiorentina on loan this summer, recently met club legend Gabriel Batistuta in Italy. Their photo together quickly captured the attention of Fiorentina and Argentina supporters.

This summer, 19-year-old Mastantuono began planning his next move after missing out on Argentina's 2026 World Cup squad selection. Ultimately, Real Madrid loaned him to Fiorentina through June 2027.
At his presentation press conference, Mastantuono stated: "Fiorentina presented me with a very attractive project that will help me continue developing my career. Italian football is very important, and I've always hoped for the opportunity to play here. I hope this experience will help me progress and have an excellent season."
During his first few weeks in Italy, Mastantuono also met one of his idols. On September 2, local time, he posted a photo with Batistuta on his social media. In the image, the two embrace and smile.
Mastantuono also included the Argentina flag and a purple heart emoji, which observers interpret as a symbol of the shared heritage between Fiorentina and Argentine football.
Batistuta is one of the most iconic players in Fiorentina's history. He played for the club from 1991 to 2000, always wearing number 9, and became one of the club's most prolific strikers with 203 goals in 331 appearances. Last week, he also participated in Fiorentina's centenary celebration at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Mastantuono has previously expressed his admiration for Batistuta. At his Fiorentina presentation press conference, he said: "One of the most iconic figures at this club is Batistuta, he's a Fiorentina legend. I've also spoken with several Argentine players who've played for this club, and they all speak highly of it, which helped me make my decision."
"I truly hope that I too can become part of this club's history in the future."
Furthermore, according to a previous report from the Fiorentina section of Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, rising Argentine star Mastantuono, on loan from Real Madrid to Fiorentina, may move into a villa owned by his compatriot and Fiorentina legend Gabriel Batistuta in the area.
The villa is located on hills near Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. While this is primarily a housing arrangement for Mastantuono upon arrival in the new city, it holds special symbolic significance given that the homeowner is Fiorentina legend Batistuta.
