According to English media "Daily Mail", Carragher believes Liverpool manager Iraola should have a "difficult conversation" with vice-captain Szoboszlai to move him to the right-back position permanently.

The 25-year-old Szoboszlai signed a new contract extension this summer worth £350,000 per week. Last season, he was named Liverpool's Player of the Season for his outstanding performances in midfield, which was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing campaign under Slot as Liverpool manager.

Although Szoboszlai has firmly established himself as a starting midfielder, the club has frequently asked him to fill in at right-back. He played in this position several times on a temporary basis last season, and again at right-back in the second half of Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

Carragher believes Szoboszlai could be permanently deployed as right-back following Iraola's underwhelming start as Liverpool manager. With Bradley still injured and Frimpong out of form, right-back has become a persistent problem for Liverpool since Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid last summer.

Carragher expressed concern that Liverpool's failure to strengthen the full-back positions during the transfer window is a "big mistake", and he believes Szoboszlai could provide a solution for Iraola.

Carragher stated: "Iraola's biggest issue is what happened last weekend is the same as last season – Szoboszlai is back at right-back. I never thought Szoboszlai was a midfielder. Now that he's signed a new contract, I can only imagine that during negotiations, they must have really wanted him to stay, and he probably said 'I want to play in midfield'. He's changed position a few times before, and at the start of the season he also played in central midfield. But I don't think he's suited to playing in midfield now."

Carragher added: "For me, in midfield, he's like Jordan Henderson. Energetic, dynamic, and he's a threatening player. But that's not how Liverpool plays, and he's not a true number 10. His best position could be right-back, where he could have more of the ball, has great running ability, and can almost fill Arnold's role."

"But he certainly won't want to play right-back because he just signed a new contract worth £350,000 per week. You've just done something that significant, and he's vice-captain. I think this is an issue Iraola will have to face next, because midfield is now unbalanced, and he's part of that problem."

This summer, Liverpool strengthened Iraola's squad by signing Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and Muñoz from Osasuna, both left-wing backs.

To bolster the defence, centre-backs Jaquet and Araujo joined on permanent and loan deals respectively, but no new players were brought in for the right-back and central midfield positions.

"I'm shocked," Neville said when discussing Liverpool's transfer window.

"At the start of last season, when you watched a few matches with Kerkez and Frimpong, the two full-backs, it was clear they weren't good enough. I'm shocked – do you think Liverpool will regret not bringing in a player?"
