Major League Soccer team Houston Dynamo has officially announced the loan signing of South African international forward Lyle Foster until June 2027, with an option to buy clause included in the contract.

Pat Onstad, Houston Dynamo's General Manager, stated: "Lyle's arrival adds a strong and mobile forward to our attacking line. He can use his speed and positioning to threaten opposing defenses behind the backline, while also possessing good link-up play. Off the ball, he maintains the high work rate and intensity we demand. His experience in the Premier League and international competitions will further enhance the team's strength. We are very much looking forward to his arrival and hope to achieve ideal results at the end of the season."

Foster previously played for Burnley for four seasons, making 89 appearances across various competitions, scoring 11 goals, with games spanning the Premier League and the English Football League Championship.

The 25-year-old Foster has twice helped Burnley gain promotion to the Premier League. In the 2022-23 season, he won the Championship title with the team and secured promotion; in the 2023-24 season, Burnley finished second in the Championship, earning direct promotion to the Premier League.

In the 2024-25 season, Foster played 26 Premier League matches for Burnley, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists. Notably, he scored the equalizer against Manchester United at Old Trafford, netted a 95th-minute winner in an away match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and also scored against Tottenham Hotspur.

Foster joined Burnley from Belgian club K.A.A. Gent in January 2023, and in his first season after joining, he helped the team win the Championship title and secure promotion to the Premier League. During his time at Gent, he made 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals, including 8 goals in 21 appearances in the first half of the 2022-23 season in the Belgian top flight.

Before joining Gent, Foster also helped a previous team win the Belgian second-tier league title and gain promotion at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Foster began his professional career at South African club Orlando Pirates, rising through the club's youth system and making his senior team debut.

In January 2019, Foster moved to Europe, joining French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco. Subsequently, he played for Belgian club Cercle Brugge and Portuguese club Vitória de Guimarães before joining Gent.

At the national team level, Foster has made 33 appearances for the South African national team and scored 11 goals since his debut in 2018.

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Foster was included in the South African squad and started in the opening group stage match against host Mexico. South Africa ultimately advanced to the knockout stage, marking the first time in the country's football history that they progressed from the World Cup group stage.

Additionally, Foster participated in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring 2 goals in the tournament and helping South Africa reach the round of 16.

Foster also played a crucial role during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He scored goals in South Africa's matches against Benin and Lesotho, helping the team secure qualification for the World Cup. This marks South Africa's first qualification for the World Cup finals since they hosted the tournament in 2010.

Currently, Houston Dynamo ranks second in the Major League Soccer Western Conference, with 12 wins, 7 losses, and 3 draws from 22 matches, accumulating 39 points, setting a club record for the highest points total after the first 22 matches in club history.

In the last 16 matches, Houston Dynamo has achieved 10 wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws, earning 33 points. Notably, the team recently kept five consecutive clean sheets, equaling the league record, and went 485 minutes without conceding a goal, which is the team's second-longest consecutive shutout in the past 10 years.
