According to Sport, citing reports from La Opinión de Málaga, two Málaga players will undergo surgery, with Larrubia sidelined for the season due to a left knee ligament injury.

Málaga has suffered a double blow with injuries. Aarón Ochoa previously attempted conservative treatment for a lateral meniscus injury but ultimately still requires surgery. Larrubia suffered a left knee injury during Thursday's training session, and examinations revealed injuries to his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Málaga Club stated that Larrubia will undergo surgery soon to address the injury and begin recovery as quickly as possible. Ochoa will undergo surgery on Monday, September 7, in Madrid, performed by Dr. Manuel Reyes, and is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months.

Málaga can still enter the transfer market to sign players if they wish, but any new signings must have been free agents before the La Liga summer transfer window closed, which was last Tuesday. Málaga's 25 professional player registration slots are currently all filled, so Larrubia's registration slot must be freed up before the club can complete a signing.

Since Larrubia's recovery period exceeds four months, Málaga can count 80% of his salary towards the wage bill as a long-term injury.

Both Larrubia and Ochoa operate in similar positions, including on the left flank and as attacking midfielders. Their absence leaves coach Funes Migueleña with two fewer attacking players at the start of the season. The coach and sporting department must decide whether to strengthen from the free agent market or wait until at least January to adjust the squad.

The free agent market offers limited options in relevant positions that meet Málaga's salary requirements. Some world-class wingers are completely beyond the club's financial reach, while other players, although their salaries might be affordable, still need their physical condition to be assessed.

Current free agent candidates include Ante Rebić, Iván Sánchez, and Adnan Januzaj. Málaga must decide whether to make an immediate signing or continue to wait.
