According to Super Deporte, Valencia legend Fernando Gómez recently gave an interview discussing the club's current predicament, coach Corberán's situation, and the future of captain Gayà. He stated directly that Valencia is not facing a short-term issue, but a structural problem accumulated over many years.

Fernando Gómez believes that Valencia's repeated narrow escapes from relegation in recent seasons have given the club a false sense of security.

"There are too many structural problems, and it's impossible to solve them quickly, but the truth is, many problems could have been avoided earlier," he said. "It's precisely because the relegation issue has been resolved season after season that we've developed this unwarranted and unreasonable sense of calm."

When discussing the club's ownership, Fernando was even more direct. He believes that Valencia's major shareholder should have stepped down long ago, and the club's management responsible for sporting affairs must also take responsibility.

"I think the club's major shareholder should have stopped being the major shareholder long ago," Fernando said. "I think the professionals managing sporting affairs could have done better, even with so much funding."

Meanwhile, he criticized the club's lack of transparency, believing that management should explain the reasons behind important decisions to the fans.

"No one in the club will explain to the fans why these decisions were made," he said. "No sporting director ever comes out to explain why these decisions are made."

Fernando's evaluation of Corberán was equally clear. He stated that although he does not support frequent managerial changes, from his perspective, Corberán should not have started this season with the team.

"I don't think Corberán should have started coaching this season, but since he did, you shouldn't have renewed his contract for another year."

Fernando believes that the club's decision to renew Corberán's contract seemed too hasty at the time. "You shouldn't give him another year because he hasn't earned it yet. If he proves himself for the rest of this season, then another year would be acceptable."

However, he also emphasized that he does not want Corberán to fail, because if the head coach ultimately leads the team to success, it will benefit Valencia.

Fernando also discussed the future of captain Gayà. Currently, Gayà has one year remaining on his Valencia contract, and the club has already offered him an extension. The Valencia legend believes that Gayà needs to seriously consider his career and should make decisions based more on competitive reasons than economic ones.

"When you've been here for many years and things aren't going well, fans always see the same faces and sometimes get tired," Fernando said. "I think his main consideration must be more about competition than economics."

As for this season's goals, Fernando did not set high expectations. In his opinion, given Valencia's current situation, successfully avoiding relegation would be enough.

"As long as they can avoid relegation, I'll be satisfied. I won't ask for anything more... and I think that's already quite enough."
