Rashford is expected to become Manchester United's regular starter on the left wing this season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Carrick gave Rashford his second start after his return last weekend against Everton. The 28-year-old forward was dominant against Everton's defender for the entire match. He was substituted after 20 minutes, and Manchester United's attacking threat diminished noticeably.

Dorgu had made a good impression on the left wing last season. He started the opening match against Hull City but was replaced by Rashford at halftime, after which Rashford started against Ipswich and Everton.

On Monday's "Manchester is Red" podcast, Steven Railston and Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News discussed Rashford's performance at the stadium.

Railston said: "Let's talk about some positives from this game first. Rashford played really well, didn't he? And it's interesting now, he's obviously played three consecutive games. I watched the Hull City game two weeks ago where he came on as a substitute in the second half; started against Ipswich, and then started this game again.

"He's back in the team, wearing the number 10 shirt, and there are some positive signs. As we said before, there were some questions externally about why he was substituted, but after Carrick explained it in the press conference, the situation became clear.

"I think from what I saw on the pitch, he was indeed a bit tired at the time. You could see him asking for an energy drink. Considering he hasn't started many games, his physical fatigue is understandable. But seeing Rashford playing well and being threatening on the field is a positive sign in itself."

Marshall responded: "Yes, I think so too. We've been discussing Dorgu all summer, but we also have to remember that his sample size on the left wing is actually very small.

"I remember he only started three games on the left wing under Carrick last season, and then when he started against Hull City, he didn't have much impact. You can clearly see Rashford is a class above. I think he played very well in this game.

"We've been discussing whether to bring him back to the squad this summer, and the cost of his current salary, but after watching this performance, if you were to look for a left winger who can provide this kind of output in the market now, it would cost at least £70 million or more.

"Manchester United almost got him for free, because he was already here. He also looks very focused and committed now. I think his tracking back against Ipswich was particularly noticeable, and he performed really well.

"His link-up play with Luke Shaw quickly found its rhythm again; it barely took any time to reconnect. There was a good spell around the first 20 minutes of the game. Rashford was frequently hugging the touchline, stretching the play wide and creating space, and Luke Shaw then made an overlapping run from behind. Rashford delivered a beautiful pass to find him.

"However, I think one smart thing Luke Shaw did afterwards was not to look for Rashford too much for a long time, because it quickly became clear that Rashford had the upper hand in his one-on-one battle.

"He didn't need a left-back to overlap and draw in another defender. I think Luke Shaw was very smart, and for 20 to 30 minutes, what he was actually doing was: 'Okay, you handle it yourself, you don't need me, keep him in a one-on-one.'"
