According to Bild, the German FA's sports court has revoked the yellow-red card issued to SV Elversberg coach Vincent Wagner and the resulting automatic suspension, allowing him to coach from the sidelines as usual in this Sunday's Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich.

Previously, SV Elversberg defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3 in an away Bundesliga match, during which Wagner received a yellow-red card from referee Martin Petersen. SV Elversberg subsequently filed an appeal, but the initial appeal was rejected by the German FA's sports court.

The club then filed another appeal, and the situation took a turn for the better. After a hearing presided over by Stefan Oberholz, the German FA's sports court decided to overturn its previous ruling.

Oberholz stated: "The decision to send off Vincent Wagner has been revoked, and therefore the automatic suspension is also cancelled."

He also emphasized that such a ruling is an "absolute exception" and that this decision was made because the referee himself admitted to an error in judgment.

Petersen participated in the German FA's sports court hearing via video. He said: "Looking back, I don't think my reaction at the time was appropriate. If it happened again, I wouldn't make the same decision. Perhaps I was too harsh at the time and misread the situation."

Wagner responded: "I am glad that justice has finally been served."

The incident occurred during SV Elversberg's 4-3 away victory over Mönchengladbach. The team was trailing 1-2 in the first half, and before Mönchengladbach scored their second goal, the refereeing team made a clear error regarding an out-of-bounds play.

Mönchengladbach's forward quickly threw the ball in, initiating an attack that resulted in a 2-1 lead. Subsequently, an emotional Wagner stepped onto the field approximately one meter and was first shown a yellow card.

At halftime, Wagner calmly approached the refereeing team, but Petersen deemed his behavior as crossing the line and showed him a second yellow card, sending him off.

According to standard regulations, a coach who receives a yellow-red card is automatically suspended for one match, which would have prevented Wagner from entering the technical area on the sidelines against Bayern. However, after this successful appeal, the penalty has been cancelled.

Marco Fritz, who oversees refereeing regulations at the German FA, also believes that Wagner's actions did not warrant a second yellow card.

Fritz stated: "I found no behavior that would justify showing a second yellow card. It is clear that his entry onto the field was not disrespectful to the referee, nor did he appear to be trying to escalate tensions. In my opinion, a warning would have been sufficient at most."

SV Elversberg has won two consecutive matches since being promoted to the Bundesliga this season. This Sunday, they will face Bayern at home, and Wagner is now confirmed to be able to coach from the sidelines for this match.
