Charlton manager Nathan Jones stated in a press conference that he would take a bullet for his dog, according to The Sun.

The remarks stemmed from Charlton's 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night. Previously, Jones said that after the linesman disallowed a goal for offside, the way he looked at him was as if he had "kicked a cat."

Before the team's match against Portsmouth, Jones said: "First of all, I want to clarify, I have never kicked a cat. I am an animal lover. I have a dog myself, and sometimes it takes me 10 to 15 minutes to leave the house because I always want to get a fly out so it doesn't die. This is all true, it's the honest truth. I also have OCD, and I love animals very much. So I have never kicked a cat at any time."

Jones then added: "I would take a bullet for my dog, I love my dog. My dog is one of the best things on this planet. So I don't just like it—that dog is like a daughter to me. I would really take a bullet."

He concluded: "I hope I don't actually have to prove that statement, but if needed, I would take a bullet for my dog."

Jones, 53, has previously managed Luton, Stoke City, and Southampton before taking the Charlton job. He is known for his passionate and emotional interviews.

This outburst came days after Charlton's 4-0 loss to Stoke City on Saturday, when he also criticized referee Robert Madley, saying: "I have seen him officiate before. I am very disappointed with my team's performance, but I am equally disappointed with the referee's performance."
