According to The Sun, Brandon Williams's two-month trial at Rotherham United appears to have ended without the former Manchester United defender securing a contract. The 25-year-old had attempted to revive his career following a difficult period off the pitch.

Williams, who made 51 appearances for the Red Devils, was handed a 14-month suspended prison sentence in May 2025 following a car crash at speeds near 100 mph.

He was convicted of dangerous driving in an accident that occurred in August 2023, when he collided with another vehicle and crashed heavily into the central reservation of the A34 in Cheshire.

The Manchester United academy product was also banned from driving for three years and received 180 hours of unpaid community service.

He admitted he had been showing off to a girl sitting next to him in the car at the time, and fortunately, no one was injured or killed in the incident.

Williams subsequently joined Hull City in hopes of turning his fortunes around, but never reached the required standard and was eventually dropped to train with the U21s.

This summer, he made 7 pre-season friendly appearances as a trialist, but despite remaining with Rotherham into the new season, the club has not offered him a contract.

Williams is believed to be training elsewhere and is currently seeking a new club.

He had hoped his time at Rotherham would prove his fitness and provide him with another opportunity in professional football.

Williams trained with Rotherham until last weekend but has not featured in the squad since.

Rotherham manager Alex Bruce suggested earlier this month that the defender should consider other options if they arise.

Bruce said: "I've had a chat with Brandon.

"If there's any opportunity that suits him, and a team that really needs him, of course he has to look at it.

"Right now, he's very keen to train here and he's enjoying it here.

"Our situation at the moment is that other positions on the pitch may need strengthening first, before we consider this position.

"At the moment, we can only take it step by step."

Rotherham signed 11 new players this summer but are still looking to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

The Millers' top transfer priorities are reportedly another striker, a midfielder, and a winger.

This leaves Williams once again without a club, as he hopes to get his career back on track.

The defender came through Manchester United's academy and was once tipped for a bright future.

However, in recent years, his career has stalled due to a series of well-publicized off-field issues.

Williams is now hoping that his training time at Rotherham will help him regain fitness and form, providing a platform for his next opportunity.
