Real Madrid legend and Betfair ambassador Luis Figo discussed Real Madrid's summer transfer activities during an appearance on the Figosofadas program. He believes Real Madrid's signings were driven more by the team's actual needs than by pursuit of star players; after two consecutive seasons without trophies, strengthening the squad is essential.

Figo stated: "I think Real Madrid's signings are excellent. They've brought in players the team needed in several key positions, including center-back, fullback, and winger like Diomandé. Overall, their signings are really excellent, driven more by actual squad needs than by player reputation."
This step needed to be taken and the squad strengthened because they haven't won any titles in the last two seasons. This is necessary for the team's morale and also allows fans to approach the new season with greater hope, become more engaged, and believe that this season could bring better results.
In 2000, Real Madrid paid Barcelona's €60 million release clause to sign Figo, completing one of the most famous and arguably most shocking transfers in football history. At the time, Figo also became the most expensive transfer in football history and in Real Madrid's history. Reflecting on the transfer market's evolution from an insider's perspective, Figo believes the fees involved in some current transfers may be excessive.
Figo stated: "At some point, this situation has to stop. It certainly depends on each club's budget, financial fair play regulations, and other factors, but these fees are really very high. I don't think a €150 million transfer can be offset through shirt sales, as people still say or try to convince others. These signings might deliver results at a competitive level, but from a financial standpoint, it's very difficult."
When specifically asked about Diomandé's transfer fee, which sports media reported Real Madrid paid €125 million, Figo replied: "Ultimately, that's the market."
Figo added: "Nearly 30 years have passed since my time. Even then, I thought the fees paid for many transfers were crazy. But as the transfer market has evolved, the fees paid for some signings these days have become even more insane."
Figo disagreed that Real Madrid's summer signings will change the competitive landscape of La Liga.
Figo stated: "Unfortunately, from the perspective of title contenders, I don't think La Liga this season will be much different from previous years. In this scenario, Real Madrid and Barcelona remain the teams most capable of winning the championship. Of course, this also depends partly on Atlético Madrid, but from this standpoint, I don't think there will be major differences."
