Jamie Vardy will be back playing his football in England after signing a contract at Burnley until the end of the season.

The 39-year-old has been a free agent since leaving Italian side Cremonese in the summer following their relegation to Serie B.

Burnley will be hoping Vardy's experience can propel them out of their own current plight - with the Clarets bottom of the Championship after five matches.

The Turf Moor outfit are yet to win in the English second tier - drawing two and losing three of their matches, scoring six and conceding 12 across those matches.

Upon signing for the the club, Vardy expressed his desire to propel them back up the table.

'I'm really happy to now be here at Burnley,' he told the club's official website.

'This club has a proper footballing history and passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their town.

'I can't wait to get going on the pitch and help the team move in the right direction.'

Burnley head coach Nicky Hayen is excited about what his new striker will add to his struggling squad.

'We are delighted to welcome Jamie to Burnley,' he said.

'His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our squad, and we believe he can make a significant impact on our campaign. Jamie has a proven track record, and we are looking forward to seeing him in a Claret shirt.'
