We are delighted to announce that Bergvall has signed a new contract with the club.
Hailed as one of Europe's finest young midfielders, Lucas, at just 20 years old, has already made 80 appearances for us in all competitions and represented the Swedish national team 14 times, including a historic performance at this summer's World Cup.
Lucas said: "I think we are building something great here. It's an exciting time for the club, so I'm very happy to extend my contract."
"I always strive to be the best, both on and off the pitch, and I know this is the ideal place to achieve that."
"Personally, my goal is to contribute more to the team – through performances, goals, and assists – and help the team as much as I can. I'm improving every day in training, and I'm looking forward to a great season ahead."
He is improving every day and has become an indispensable member of the team.
"This new contract reflects our trust in Lucas and our expectations for his role at the club, both now and in the future."
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: "In training every day, you can see Lucas's desire to learn, improve, and strive to reach the highest level.
"Lucas is fearless, eager to take responsibility, and has the character to step up in crucial moments. He also understands that growth is a gradual process and shows an excellent attitude towards improving his skills.
"I believe he still has a lot of room for improvement, and we want to provide Lucas with a platform to fully realize his potential."
Born in Stockholm, Lucas began his career at Brommapojkarna in the Swedish Division 2. In 2022, Brommapojkarna was promoted to the Swedish Allsvenskan, and Lucas made 11 appearances for the team.
His outstanding performances attracted attention from several European clubs, but he chose to stay in Stockholm, joining Djurgårdens, where his brother Theo played. In the 2023 season, Lucas made further progress, making 25 appearances in 30 games, helping the team finish fourth in the Swedish top league.
In February 2024, Lucas joined Tottenham Hotspur from Djurgårdens. The midfielder had an excellent debut season with Spurs, making 45 appearances in all competitions and winning the Player of the Season award in May 2025.
At the time, he also earned a Europa League winner's medal, although unfortunately, an injury prevented him from playing in the final in Bilbao. Prior to that, he had made 12 appearances in 14 games in the competition.
At the start of his second season, Lucas once again demonstrated his strong abilities, appearing in the UEFA Super Cup in August 2025 and scoring a spectacular header in Tottenham's 3-0 victory over West Ham United the following month. In the 2025/26 season, he made another 33 appearances for Tottenham.
Last March, he successfully qualified for the 2026 World Cup with Sweden after a dramatic playoff victory over Poland. He came on as a substitute in the first match against Tunisia, making history as the youngest player to appear for Sweden in a World Cup. He featured as a substitute against Tunisia, Japan, and the Netherlands, before making his first start in the Round of 16 against France.
