Wolves officially announced that 27-year-old Uruguayan defender Santiago Bueno will join Club América on a season-long loan, with the Mexican club holding an option to make the move permanent.

Bueno has been with Wolves for the past three seasons, making 85 appearances for the club. Last season, he played 34 times across all competitions, scoring 4 goals, including Premier League goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland.

Earlier this year, Bueno was named Wolves' Player of the Season by the club's fans. However, following the appointment of a new head coach, his playing time for the upcoming season has been limited. So far this season, he has been included in the squad for four Championship matches but has not featured.

Due to his World Cup participation, Bueno returned to Wolves' pre-season training late and has since struggled to secure consistent playing time. A loan move to Club América will provide him with a new challenge and regular opportunities to play.

Wolves technical director Matt Jackson said that Bueno was one of the most difficult situations to manage during the transfer window. As Wolves' first-team squad exceeded the 25-man registration limit, the club ultimately had to find a new destination for him.

Jackson praised Bueno as "a great person and a really professional player," noting that he trained diligently and never caused any issues for the team. However, considering his international career ambitions, Bueno requires consistent playing time, which is difficult to guarantee given Wolves' current circumstances.

Jackson also stated that Club América is a "big club" in a competitive league, which can provide Bueno with an appropriate playing environment.

Bueno joined Wolves in 2021, and his departure marks a new chapter for him in the Mexican league.
